I know as a teacher I touch many lives. My hope is to make a positive
difference in the future of my students and to show them there are no limits to
what they can accomplish.
If I can teach my students how to see things a different
way, or more clearly to understand another viewpoint, I will have given them a
glorious gift. That gift will be
there for them throughout their lives.
There is an unlimited number of ways to create. The creative thought process is
invaluable to any endeavor. Robert
Bresson, French film director, states: ÒMake visible what, without you, might
perhaps never have been seenÓ. I
see my students learning, through art, that each of them has something unique
to express, and that our differences are what makes life rich.
This year in various art classes, we are doing such
projects as:
Drawing, Paper Collage, Overlapping Sculpture,
Pottery, Sculpey Clay,
Pen Drawing in the style of Georgia OÕKeefe,
Water Color Painting, Acrylic Painting, Japanese Painting,
Design and Build Structures,
Wire Sculpture,
Pin Art
In Art Class we support literacy with written warm-ups
and mini lessons. Also, each day a
different student presents a positive quote of his or her choosing. Another literary/art project is writing
Haiku Poetry and doing a watercolor painting to go with it. We have wonderful students and artists
here at Westlake Middle School! I
am proud to be their teacher!
