7^th Grade Health Education

The 7^th grade health education curriculum will cover the following units:

I.                    Substance Use Prevention (dealing with the realities, influences, types, etc. )

During this unit, your child will have an opportunity to participate in a personalized web-based curriculum designed to prevent the use of tobacco. To achieve this, the web-based program will conduct a confidential assessment of your child’s current knowledge, attitudes, and use of tobacco products (Click Here to see attached survey questions). This is a fully confidential assessment that will help the web-based program design a personalized tobacco prevention or cessation program for your child. Please remember, this web-based tobacco prevention/cessation program will not have access to your child’s actual name and all information is accessible only by your child (not the teacher or school administration).

II.                 First Aid and Safety

Bandaging, shock, burns, sudden illnesses & other life saving skills

III.               Consumer Health

Advertising awareness, peer pressures

IV.              Communication and peer relationships

V.                 Reproductive health

-Demonstrates understanding of the influences of the endocrine system on puberty

-Identifies the physical, emotional, and social effects of hormones on the human body

-Demonstrates understanding of the physical development of the body during puberty

Within all units course content will be reinforced with the following research-based prevention strategies: Communication skills/Goal Setting Skills /Decision Making Skills /Problem Solving Skills.
