Westlake Middle School Health Education Department
Promoting healthy behaviors among students is an important part of the fundamental mission of the schools in Adams 12 School District: to provide young people with the knowledge and skills they need to become healthy and productive adults. Improved student health has been correlated to an increase in student capacity for learning, a reduction in absenteeism, and improved physical fitness and mental alertness. We at Westlake Middle School define health as the combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being-the three sides called the health triangle. Students will learn how to take charge of their own health by developing the skills to achieve balance in the three sides of the health triangle in addition to learning to avoid unnecessary health risks.
