Access Westlake

Purpose:  Access is a system of shared accountability that provides interventions to students which offer increasing levels of support when they experience difficulties in the classroom.  The goal of Access is to find the level of support that will enable the students to be successful in the short term and to give them the skills that allow for that success without the need for ongoing intervention. For students who are exceeding academic and behavioral expectations, higher level academic and elective activities will be offered during Access time. 

Access Westlake focuses on our commitments and beliefs in that:

• We take responsibility for the success of every student.
• Some students need more; they don’t all “get it” in the allotted time.
• Extra help should be part of the school culture.
• Multiple opportunities should be provided for all students to succeed.

Profile of a Struggling student:

• Not turning in work
• Late work
• Perpetual absences
• Failing grades
• Work that is below expectations
• Behaviors interfering with academic success
• Below Grade Level (CSAP, Level, SRI, Stanford)
• Poor Organization
•  Need more time to understand and/or finishing a concept/lesson
• Any other social/emotional issue that is interfering with students success
