Those who are unusual and surprising. Let’s accept all people all the time. Find the courage to be kind.

Westlake Middle School encourages the opportunity for our school community to engage in the celebration of Halloween in a way that demonstrates the Westlake Way.  Please make sure your costume demonstrates "Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Invested" by not selecting costumes that may be considered insensitive to various races, genders, cultures, and religions.  Costumes that would violate the Student Dress Code will only be allowed if approved by an administrator prior to wearing the costume to school. For safety reasons, masks or makeup should not cover the face in a manner that makes the person unrecognizable.  Please see the poster in the cafeteria with the details of the Halloween Costume Guidelines for more information or talk with Dr. Heide, Mr. Weisbart, or Mr. Novotny.

We look forward to seeing your creativity with your costumes on Halloween!

Novotny.

To keep the power, bullies will often tell you not to “snitch”. That is a technique to keep you quiet so they can still be mean to you. Asking for help to get a kid to stop the meanness is not snitching. Respect yourself by speaking up and reaching out for support. You deserve to be respected at our school.

Tues, Oct 9: Our best friends are often our bullies. If you have a friend who is being rude to you, speak up for yourself, clarify how you expect to be treated and if that friend cannot be more positive with you then it is time to change friends. When friends decide to be mean or rude you have to decide whether you are going to go along with the crowd or stand up for what you believe in.

On behalf of the WLMS Staff and PTO I would like to thank our school community for being part of our highly successful check drive.  The WLMS community was very generous this year and we surpassed our goal of $10k! We raised $13,765 for our school! What an impressive total!  In addition to this total, we had two exceptionally generous contributions from two Westlake families totalling an additional $15k!  I am so humbled by all the generous contributions from our community to support the success of our students.  A most sincere thanks to our school community for your support!

We are now going to begin the drawing for the prizes!  For every $25 donated by a student, their name was entered into the drawing with a max of four entries for donations at or above $100.

Let’s start with the drawing for the three chromebooks!  Please note, we can only give one chromebook per winning family, so if two students in one family has their names drawn then we will put one of the student’s names as one of the other prize winners.  Teachers, as students names are announced please send them to the office to claim their prize.

Friday, September 14, 2018 – TODAY IS “A” DAY

We have a special lady that has always wanted to read the morning announcements.  As this is her last day at Westlake after 12 years here...sniff sniff... we would

love to give her this opportunity.  See if you can figure out who this is....She is there for you when you need a bandaid.  Kids like to give her a hard time as she still uses

a flip phone and does not text...and she is always willing to go above and beyond to make your day.  She has worked for Westlake for 12 years but before that, she worked

at the Fire Department for 20 years.  She has even been a flight attendant. Westlake has truly been fortunate to have such a wonderful person in our building.

Without further ado we would like to thank Ms. Cheryl Young-Beumer for sharing all her love and skills with us at Westlake.  You will certainly be missed. Best of luck in your retirement. Enjoy but please come back and see us.

Come check out the foyer as names will go up soon.  Remember every dollar counts for us to reach our goal.
