I am so excited to be at Westlake Middle School this year teaching Choir and 8th Grade Leadership! Originally from Indiana, I am a proud graduate of Adams 12 schools (Westlake and Horizon HS), and I have spent my entire teaching career in Adams 12 as well. After graduating from UNC in Greeley, I spent 15 years teaching Choir at Northglenn HS and 6 years teaching General Music at Meridian Elementary before coming to Westlake. I've been involved in music all my life - first as a clarinetist, then I taught myself to play piano, then eventually I found my way to choir as a student at Westlake in the same room where I now teach! Over the years, I've taught private lessons, served as the Chair of the Colorado All State Jazz Choir, received certification in Orff-Schulwerk, shared the stage with some world class musicians, and also worked as an adjudicator, clinician, and accompanist in the Denver metro area. I had the great pleasure of singing 11 seasons with the Denver-based choir, Kantorei, and had the opportunity to tour overseas several times with that group, as well as performing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NYC, and Orchestra Hall in Chicago. It still blows my mind how many amazing opportunities I've had simply because I chose to study music back in 4th grade. :)
In my free time, I love hanging out with my super adorable, spoiled rotten yellow lab, Ella. I love hiking, camping, taking road trips, seeing live theater, visiting National Parks, reading, and visiting with friends and family both near and far. I'm also involved with Autism Speaks in honor of my big brother, Tom, who has autism. He taught me early on that we can learn something from everyone we meet, and I always keep that in mind in my work with students in the classroom. Sure, I'm the teacher, but what might I learn from you?
