This will be my first year teaching at Adams 12 and my first year teaching 7th grade math. However, I have 11 years of experience teaching and an additional 9 years of working with troubled youth. I love teaching. I have been teaching at a Charter School in Firestone for the past 11 years. During that time, I taught 4th grade for 7 years, 6th-grade math and science for 3 years, and 5th and 6th math for 1 year. In addition to that, this past year I taught STEAM and Outdoor Survival Skills to 5th-8th graders, and I was also the Yearbook Advisor. Prior to my teaching career, I was a Mental Health Worker and trainer at a residential treatment center for troubled youth, and a Correctional Officer for the Division of Youth Corrections with the State of Colorado. I also tutor students privately, from 2nd graders through 9th graders. I am a self-proclaimed Math Nerd, not because I am super smart with math... but more because of how amazing it can be. I call it "Mathmagic." (I told you I was a math nerd.)
When I am not teaching, I spend time with my family. My husband and I have been married for more than 19 years and we have an amazing daughter who is a Junior at Erie High School. I enjoy watching television, camping, fishing, kayaking, and road-tripping with my family. My daughter and I are avid Colorado Mammoth lacrosse fans and enjoy time together. My husband and I also have a small photography business that allows us to demonstrate our creative sides.
I am super excited to work at Westlake this year and look forward to an amazing, but challenging, school year!
